JOB TITLE:               Blaster/Painter

SUERVISOR:            Paint Shop Supervisor/Production Manager

DEPARTMENT:        Indirect

STATUS:                  Non-Exempt (Hourly), Part-Time Hours

LOCATION:              Two Harbors, MN

Job Summary:

The Painter is responsible for preparing surfaces and applying coatings to various manufactured products. This role involves the use of specialized equipment to blast surfaces and apply paint or other protective coatings according to specifications. The Blaster/Painter ensures that all products meet quality standards and adhere to safety regulations.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Operate blasting equipment to remove rust, scale, paint, and other contaminants from surfaces.
  • Mask and cover areas that do not require coating.
  • Inspect surfaces for defects and ensure they are properly cleaned and prepped for painting.
  • Apply primers, intermediate coats, and topcoats to surfaces using brushes, rollers, or spray equipment.
  • Mix and thin paint to achieve the desired color and consistency.
  • Use equipment such as airless sprayers, conventional spray guns, and electrostatic sprayers.
  • Inspect completed work for conformance to specifications.
  • Measure coating thickness and ensure even application.
  • Address any defects or non-conformities in the coating process.
  • Maintain and clean all blasting and painting equipment.
  • Follow all safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ensure proper ventilation in work areas to prevent exposure to harmful fumes and dust.
  • Maintain records of work performed, including surface preparation, materials used, and inspection results.
  • Report any issues or concerns to supervisors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficient in operating blasting and painting equipment.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and drawings.

 

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Previous work experience using sandblasting equipment preferred.
  • Additional vocational training in industrial painting in a manufacturing setting or related field a plus.
  • Prior experience with paint prepping preferred.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods standing.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.

SALARY:                        $23.00-$28.00/hour
